Wisdom Cards / Designs of the Andes

The Wisdom Cards set is a guide to the ancient iconography of the Andes often found in its textile tradition. Each description features a different traditional design of the Cusco region with its Quechua name, meaning and suggestion for meditation.

In 1947, Doctor Delia Vidal de Milla of Cusco began an investigation in various high Andean weaving communities. She had already observed that the women of the Andes did not follow guides or patterns, and that each textile was her unique inspiration.

During her research, the women explained that their weaving was done in a state of silence and meditation, and the symbols they used had special meanings related to those hours of reflection.

Includes 32 informational cards about the traditional iconography of Quechua textiles, along with the above story and how to use the Wisdom Cards.
